Free Choice in Tech!

This week in Technology the students had free choice. They were able to choose any of the games and programs we have used so far this year, or they could play in my Lego box - which is always a special treat for children of all ages (and me)!

Third Grade Naturalists!!!

Third graders continue their "naturalist" adventures in the woods behind CHA. A lot has changed in the environment since the last time we recorded our observations. A lot less leaves - and a bit chilly, too!
Students noted animal trails, crow patterns, gigantic leaves, and beautiful frost patterns on the ground and on leaves. And much much more!
It is amazing what one sees when they pay attention and look closely at nature.

Kindergarten Tech

The Kindergarten students have been helping Rainbow Fish rescue his friends who were swallowed by the hiccuping whale! They have to solve a variety of puzzles and perform various tasks to rescue Milo, Giggles, Ruby, Blue and assorted fish. Once they have found Sea Filly she will lead them to Marcello the Mechanic who will help them fix the geyser and stop the hiccups. It is a lot of fun and a great way to practice mouse and problem solving skills.

Third Grade Tech - Adventures in Zoombiniville

The Third Graders are doing an excellent job transporting the Zoombinis to their new land and freeing them from the tyranny of the Bloats. Over the Allergic Cliffs, through the Stone Cold Caves and Pizza Pass. If they have enough Zoombinis left at this point they can store some of them at Shelter Point before taking Captain Cajun's ferryboat to the Deep Dark Forest where they must work out which of the Tattooed Toads will safely transport them across. You get the picture - it is a lot of fun and involves some serious head scratching!

Fourth grade Spanish

Fourth graders are finishing up with Chapter 1A and this week they worked with a partner and practiced asking their partner what they like to do more in Spanish.

For example: ¿Qué te gusta más, practicar deportes o nadar?
(What do you like better, to practice sports or to swim?)

Fourth graders also practiced answering the question
¿Qué te gusta hacer?(What do you like to do?) and ¿Qué no te gusta hacer? (What don't you like to do?)

Matamoscas!

Third graders reviewed their bedroom vocabulary by playing the game "Matamoscas"! Students love reviewing Spanish vocabulary words through this game.

Are you thristy? Are you hungry?

Second graders reviewed how to ask if you are thristy and if you are hungry and how to respond to these questions. They then had chats with other classmates in Spanish, asking if they were thirsty and if they were hungry.

Third Grade Tech

This week the Third Grade students embarked on the Zoombinis Logical Journey. Until the Bloats came along and enslaved them, the Zoombinis enjoyed the good life living happily on Zoombini Isle, making small, useful products, which were prized the world over. Using fun reasoning games that require serious problem solving and math-thinking work the students must rescue the Zoombinis and transport them to Zoombiniville.

Dancing Fan

Our kindergarteners and 1st graders learned about Native American dancing fan and created our own. They tried to create symetry with geometric shapes. After we create our fan, we were listening to native American music and dance around the room.

4th Grade Tech

4th Grade students are working in pairs to make a movie about their experiences at Islandwood. In the first lesson of this unit they learned how to download photos from the CHA Flickr album and in the second lesson they composed captions that will accompany the images. This week they imported the photos in to Windows Live Movie Maker and started adding transistions and animations. If you have  a Windows PC you can download Windows Live Movie Maker and Photo Gallery for free here - http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker?os=other .
