Middle School PE
Middle School students had a good time with a very fun and challenging cooperative team activity this week. Students were required to pull in all aspects of good teamwork skills to achieve a common goal. Skills involved creating a plan, listening to team members, voicing their own ideas, not being afraid to try and maybe fail in hopes of learning and perseverance.

Drums!
Students have been exploring and jammin' on the drumset. It's great to see what each student will do on a set of drums when given the chance! We talked a bit about the various parts of the instrument and upper grades learned a basic rock beat. Basically, 8 notes in the right hand, and the left hand hits together with the right on counts 3 and 7. Also, the famous 'We Will Rock You' beat seems to be a fan favorite.

CHA PE: Pirates Ahoy!

Second and Third grade students had a great time playing "Scooter Ships" this past week. This very active game requires students to work together in small teams to build a ship and collect the "Pirate Booty". All classes worked hard on good teamwork skills--successfully sailing across the sea and collecting thier treasure!

PE: Team Pin Down

All classes on Wednesday had fun in the sun playing Team Pin Down. This game encourages teamwork and good sportsmanship. Also, one creative 5th grader fashions a bow and arrow out of a swim noodle and an elastic strap!

P.E.: Ready to Hit the Slopes!!

Kindergarten and First Grade students learned (and reviewed) how to ride the chairlift. While new skiers begin on the "Magic Carpet"--all students eventually graduate to the chairlift. Today's lesson focused on proper chairlift form and safety. Students learned to keep their back to the back of the chair and their legs out straight. The student on the right (as looking at the picture) was demonstrating proper form and the student on the left was showing improper form. Students had a great time giggling up the imaginary mountain in the gym!

Big Ball Soccer
Middle School students and Third Graders had an adventurous time playing "Big Ball Soccer" in PE. Students discovered what it felt like playing soccer with a very large bouncy ball, a medium size bouncy ball and then a traditional soccer ball. This led to a discussion on skill specificity in sport.

First Grade Goes "Ape" in PE!!

First Grade students had fun playing "Animal Tag" in PE today. We have some very creative students this year. The game involved each team picking an animal and acting out that animal for the other group to guess (at which point there was a tag element to the activity). We had all manner of living creatures conjured up! From cheetah's to narwhals to King Cobra's to plankton--non-stop smiles all day long! I was incredibly impressed the imaginative spirits of all classes!
